No. 18 Lawrence Tech Set to Start Pool Play at the 2019 NAIA National Championship Presented by Marriot South Sioux City Riverfront on Tuesday, December 3 at 9:30 p.m. EST

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The 18th-ranked Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's volleyball team is set to begin pool play at the 2019 NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championship presented by Marriott South Sioux City on December 3 at 9:30 p.m. EST in Sioux City, Iowa at the Tyson Events Center. The five-day tournament opens on Tuesday with pool play with the top two teams of each pool moving on to the 16-team tournament that begins on Friday, December 6 followed by the Semifinals and Championships on Dec. 7.

Lawrence Tech earned the berth to the final site following a perfect conference season, regular season conference title, and conference tournament title to finish 18th in the final NAIA Top 25 poll. Following the NAIA Opening Round on November 23, the national office announced the pools for pool play. The Blue Devils drew No. 2 Northwestern (Iowa), No. 14 Corban (Ore.), and Martin Methodist.

The face Corban on Tuesday, December 3 at 9:30 p.m. EST followed by Northwestern on Wednesday, December 4 at 7:00 p.m. EST, and Martin Methodist on Thursday, December 6 at 9:00 p.m. EST.

#14 CORBAN (ORE.) WARRIORS | 20-8 | 16-4 CCC | STATS

Corban enters the NAIA National Championship as a final site invitee following their regular season in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Corban finished the season with 20 wins, a 16-4 conference record, and ranked 14th after finishing in third place and making it to the conference tournament semifinals. This is the first meeting between the Warriors and Blue Devils.

The Warriors are led by Cassie Cunningham on the offense with kills with 276 on 729 total attacks with a .203 hitting percentage and 25 aces. Avari Ridgway is second on the team in kills with 260 for a .143 hitting percentage. Jadyn Mullen is the team top setter with 573 total assists and 34 aces while Cierra Leopoldino added 320 assists and 19 aces. Kelani Ontai leads the team in digs with 440 as she averages 4.23 digs per set. Sarah Randall has a team best 84 total blocks including seven solo blocks.

#2 NORTHWESTERN (IOWA) | 28-1 | 16-0 GPAC | STATS

Northwestern enters the tournament as the second-best team in the NAIA according to the final NAIA Top 25 Poll, coming in at No. 2. The Raiders were ranked No. 1 for the majority of the season, only to drop a spot after a loss in the opening round of their conference tournament November 9, 2019. They won the Great Plains Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship to earn the automatic bid to the national championship.

Anna Wedel leads the Raiders in kills with 419 for a .342 hitting percentage and finished the season with 23 aces. Wedel also had 260 digs and 38 total blocks. Lacey Wacker led the team in assists with 1,232 as she averaged 11.96 assists per set. Wacker led the team in aces with 41 and added 211 digs. Emily Van Ginkel finished the season with a team high 95 blocks and 16 solo blocks as she added 173 kills on 401 total attacks.

MARTIN METHODIST | 27-8 | 12-1 SSAC | STATS

Martin Methodist won the Southern States Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships to earn an automatic bid to the national championship. Following the regular season, they were placed in the NAIA Opening Round. The RedHawks earned their way to Sioux City with a 3-1 win at Milligan (Tenn.) on November 23.

The RedHawks are led by Rebecka Cronin with 391 kills and 32 aces while Lauren Martin added 271 kills and 17 aces. Sydney Arnold recorded a team high 1,250 assists to go with 368 kills as the team's top setter. Kaitlyn Lund led the team in blocks with 123 including 21 solo blocks and 247 kills. Kara Nelms added 256 kills and 25 aces as she recorded 69 total blocks.
