(RV) Lawrence Tech Closes Cornerstone Classic with a 3-1 Record after a Pair of 3-0 Wins over IU-South Bend and Bethel (Ind.)

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The (RV) Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's volleyball team have now won three straight and have won 16 of their last 17 matches including Indiana University - South Bend (3-0) and Bethel (Ind.) University (3-0) to close the Cornerstone Classic in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Lawrence Tech (19-2, 10-0) opened the second day of the classic with IU-South Bend, taking the Titans in three sets - 25-14, 25-16, 25-19. The Blue Devils hit .291 with 46 kills on 117 total attempts. They finished the match with just 12 errors while dominating the serve with 10 aces including four from Kristi Doherty. Zakia Hunt finished the match with 16 kills and three block assists. Nichole Hyduk added a team high 14 digs and recorded two aces while Brittany Taber added seven kills on 20 attempts in the win. 

The Blue Devils opened up a 9-1 lead on the Titans as Varvara Gromakova opened the game on serve for LTU. Hyduk and Mackenzie Fisher served next and that led to a 13-4 lead as Hudson and Hunt had a kill with an ace from Fisher. IU-South Bend cut it to eight at 22-14, but Jessica Lodge closed the set with a kill, taking it 25-14. 

The second set went back-and-forth early, but the Blue Devils pulled away at 8-8 as they went on a 10-2 run to go up 18-10. Doherty ot the final kill of the set to go up 2-0 on the Titans. In the final set of the match, IU-South Bend battled with the Blue Devils, cutting away at a 16-13 lead to tie it at 19-19. However, Lawrence Tech closed the set on a 5-0 run as Doherty served them into a 25-19 win. 

The Blue Devils cruised to a 25-16, 25-22, 25-17 win over Bethel as they hit .314 with 49 kills and 12 errors on 118 total attacks. Lodge led the way for LTU with 16 kills on 38 attempts for a .316 hitting percentage followed by Taber with 11 kills and a career high .688 hitting percentage. Doherty finished the match with 32 assists, 19 digs, and a pair of aces. 

Lawrence Tech returns to confernece play on Wednesday, October 16 when they host UM-Dearborn at Don Ridler Field House during Homecoming Week. First serve is set for 7 p.m. EDT.
