(RV) Lawrence Tech Takes Down Lourdes in Three Sets as they move to 8-1 on the season

SYLVANIA, Ohio – The (RV) Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's volleyball team defeats Lourdes (Ohio) University 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-22) to move to 8-1 on the season. The Blue Devils have now won their last five matches by a score of 3-0, a program first.

Lawrence Tech (8-1, 2-0) was led by Zakia Hunt with a program record .619 hitting percentage with 14 kills and one error on 21 total attacks while Varvara Gromakova finished with 10 kills. Kristi Doherty recorded a match high 34 assists and 19 digs with five service aces.

HOW THEY DID IT

SET ONE

The Blue Devils jumped out to a 7-1 lead as Gromakova and Jessica Lodge opened the set on serve for Lawrence Tech. The Gray Wolves cut the lead to 9-7, but Lawrence Tech used held them at bay as Doherty pushed the 22-13. Doherty started the 5-0 run with four aces and an assist while Madeline Hudson had the lone kill. The Blue Devils won the final two points of the set to take it 25-15.

SET TWO

Lawrence Tech trailed early as Lourdes took a 2-1 lead on a pair of kills, but the Blue Devils won six of the next eight points to go up 7-4. Isabella McDonald had two kills during that run as Doherty, Lodge, and Fisher all served for Lawrence Tech as they took the three-point lead. Nichole Hyduke led the Blue Devils to an 11-5 lead from the service line as Gromakova got a kill and a block. LTU pushed their lead to 23-14 and earned the set win at 25-16.

SET THREE

The Blue Devils took an early 3-0 lead, but Lourdes was not going away as they battled back with an 8-2 run to take an 8-5 lead. Shelby Rasch served Lawrence Tech into the lead at 11-10 followed by Gromakova giving LTU a 13-11 lead off her service attempt. The Gray Wolves cut the lead to one at 19-18, but Lawrence Tech held them off with a pair of kills from Hunt and a set sealing kill by McDonald to take it 25-21.
