SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's tennis team defeated Concordia (Mich.) University-Ann Arbor in the first round of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament on Thursday, April 18.
Lawrence Tech (11-10, 3-2) started with a two-point deficit as the Blue Devils withdrew doubles third flight and singles court-six.
LTU tied the match after doubles action after taking first and second flights with a pair of 8-0 sets. Samantha Weber and Samantha Kohn were in charge of cutting Concordia's (7-11, 0-5) advantage to one point at court-two against Taylor Kahlstorf and Kayla Verhelle. Sabrina Mateos and Maria Vega-Hazas tied the match with a win over Kaylee Tucker and Charity Felton at first flight.
The Cardinals took a short lead after Maria Nicholls fell 6-1, 6-0 to Tina Perumalla at singles court-five. Mateos (6-0, 6-0) and Kohn (6-1, 6-0) gave LTU a 4-3 lead as they took third and fourth flights against Tucker and Kahlstorf, respectively. Weber sealed the victory after defeating Verhelle at court-two with a double 6-1.
The Blue Devils will be back in the court on Tuesday, April 23 at Aquinas (Mich.) College for the WHAC Tournament Semifinals. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
