The Lawrence Technological University women's soccer team comes back to the Blue Devils Stadium to face the no. 10 Spring Arbor Cougars today, September 18th at 7:30 p.m. The Blue Devils face the Cougars right after following for only the second time this season with a 2-1 loss to Mount Vernon Nazarene.
Leading LTU (3-2-1) into this match is Katelyn Mather who has five goals this season, averaging one goal a game. Mather also leads the team in points with 11. On her tail is DiOnna Hill, a freshman, who has two goals and two assists for six points. In assists, a freshmen leads the team in the form of Dahlia Jerovsek who has three and, on top of that, has a goal for five points in her first year thus far. In net, Rebecca Almandoz has been a steady force, grabbing a little over four saves a game and has 21 saves this season.
The SAU Cougars (4-2-1) are fresh from several top 25 opponents, where they went 1-1-1 overall. Their first match against WHAC no. 16 University of Northwestern Ohio ended 0-2, and then an 1-1 tie with no. 6 Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.). Only this past Saturday are they coming off an 2-1 win against the no. 4 Martin Methodist (Tenn.) team. Leading the charge of the cougars is a diverse scoring block of five different players with five or more points. At the top of that list is Mackenzie Selvius who has four goals and one assist. Right behind her with seven points is Lexi Ponstein who has one goal and five assists.
Following this match, WHAC play looms with the Blue Devils opening their conference matches for the 2019 season. LTU gets to start at home with a match against Rochester College (Mich.) on Wednesday, September 25th at 7:30 p.m.
