ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The No.10 Lawrence Technological University women's lacrosse team start off their three game week with a 21-3 upset of the No. 9 Concordia University - Ann Arbor on Wednesday, April 3rd. Six of the seven scorers ended the day with multiple points.
Ashley Sherry had a phenomenal night all over the field with nine points from six goals and three assists. Kady Waits and Anna Gagnon each had seven points. Gagnon had four goals and three assists and Waits had six goals and one assist. Bella Van Buren led the team with nine ground balls and two caused turnovers. Waits and Abby Barnewold also had two caused turnovers, while Barenwold was hot off the circle with six draw controls, a team high on the night.
The game started off with Lawrence Tech going on 9-0 run early in the game, limiting the NO. 9 Cardinals chances with long possessions, holding them off for 11 minutes. Concordia then went on to score three goals following a few more goals of the Blue Devils, pushing the game to 11-3. Then, with under two minutes left, Lawrence Tech scored three goals, including a buzzer beater by Ashley Sherry, fed by Anna Gagnon to end the period 14-3.
For the third game in a row, Lawrence Tech had a second half shut out by the hands of Dorie Coggin. Coggin ended the night with 10 saves, including four in the second half. The Blue Devils had a seven goal run in the second, including limiting their turnovers to eight and beating Concordia in every category.
Next up for the Blue Devils is a game against Cleary University (Mich.) at 5 p.m. at Harrison High School on Friday, April 5th. Then, on Saturday, Lawrence Tech faces Madonna at home at 1 p.m.. This game will also honor their two seniors, Jordan Messing and Maddie Barnewold.
