Women's Hoops Rallies Late to Tame Gray Wolves, 58-56

SYLVANIA, Ohio.- (RV) Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's hoops defeated Lourdes (Ohio) University at the Ebeid Rec Center on Saturday, January 5. The Blue Devils erased a 22-point deficit, fueled by 13-second half points from Kendall Fisher (FR/Indianapolis, Ind.).

After shooting just 18-percent in the opening two quarters, Lawrence Tech (15-4, 7-2) knocked down 16-of-32 over the final 20 minutes. LTU grabbed 16 offensive rebounds that led to 11-second chance points, and scored 18 points off 17 turnovers by the Gray Wolves.

Danielle Hanson (JR/East Lansing, Mich.) had a game-high 18 points, hitting 8-of-15 from the field. Cherilyn Banas (SR/Oxford, Mich.) and Fisher dished out a team-high four assists apiece. Fisher finished the outing with 16 points. Nicole Buckingham (SR/Saginaw, Mich.) contributed 12 points, marking her 16th-straight double-figure game.

Lourdes (5-10, 2-7) shot 34.5 percent from the field, 42.1 percent from three-point land, and 80 percent from the charity stripe. The Gray Wolves were led by Jami Hardy as she scored 12 points and grabbed 10 boards. Lourdes had nine different scorers in the effort.

Heading to the fourth quarter down 45-28, the Blue Devils rallied by outscoring the Gray Wolves 30-11. Lawrence Tech shot 80 percent from the field, hitting 4-of-4 from long range in the final frame.

Hanson cut the deficit to 10 with three the old-fashioned way with 4:52 to play. Next LTU possession, Fisher made a move to the hoop to bring the score to within single digits for the first time since 3:13 to go in the opening quarter.

Trailing 56-55 with under 30 seconds to play, it was the senior leader Buckingham that gave the Blue Devils the lead, burying a jumper. Fisher iced the game, grabbing a missed three from Lourdes and hitting a free throw.

Lawrence Tech returns to action on Wednesday, January 9, when Aquinas (Mich.) College (12-6, 6-3) visits the Don Ridler Field House at 6 pm.
