SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's basketball team fell, 74-64, to seventh-ranked Indiana Tech on Saturday, December 1, at the Don Ridler Field House. Emily Langolf (SO/Macomb, Mich.) led the Blue Devils with a career and team-high 14 points off the bench.
With shooting woes troubling Lawrence Tech (8-3, 3-2) in the second quarter, it was the trio of Langolf, Kendall Fisher (FR/Indianapolis, Ind.) and Rachel Price (JR/Springboro, Ohio) off the bench that was a needed pickup for the Blue Devils' offense. LTU's bench outscored Indiana Tech's, 37-0. Lawrence Tech forced the Warriors into eight turnovers that led to 10 points.
Langolf's career-high performance consisted of 5-for-10 from the field that included 2-for-4 from deep. Fisher dished out a game-high four assists, while Price recorded team-highs with eight rebounds and four blocks. Price entered the game 15th in the NAIA with 15 blocks on the year. Fisher and Price chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively. Nicole Buckingham (SR/Saginaw, Mich.) scored in double figures for the eighth-straight outing, netting 11.
Indiana Tech (10-1, 5-0) finished the game shooting 45.8 percent from the field and 58.3 percent from beyond the arc. DeAnn Kauffman recorded a game-high 33 points. Kaufman went 4-of-4 from deep and hauled in seven boards.
Much of the first half was a back-and-forth affair. Lawrence Tech led for the first 3:19 of the game, but would not lead for the rest of the effort. In the second quarter, the deficit for LTU would grow to 10 briefly before Cherilyn Banas (SR/Oxford, Mich.) knocked down the jumper on the ensuing possession. The Blue Devils went into the locker room trailing 35-28.
After the Warriors outscored LTU, 23-14, in the third quarter, the Blue Devils came back in the last 10 minutes of the game to reduce the 16-point deficit to eight on two occasions. Despite the stronger fourth quarter performance, outscoring Indiana Tech, it wouldn't be enough to overcome the double-digit deficit, 74-64.
Lawrence Tech will be back in action on Wednesday, December 5, as the Blue Devils host the University of Michigan - Dearborn at the Don Ridler Field House. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
