Blue Devils Defeat Golden Eagles 95-43; Buckingham Records Sixth Double-Double of the Season

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The (RV) Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's basketball team claimed its third-straight win, defeating Cornerstone University, 95-43, at the Mol Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Wednesday, November 28. Senior guard Nicole Buckingham recorded her sixth double-double of the season as she scored 16 points and grabbed 13 boards.

Lawrence Tech (8-2, 3-1) finished the game shooting 51.5 percent from the field, 40.7 percent from beyond the arc. The Blue Devils forced the Golden Eagles (1-11, 0-4) into 12 turnovers that led to 18 points. LTU controlled the glass, boasting a margin of +23, 49-26. In addition, Lawrence Tech's bench outscored Cornerstone's, 44-22.

Buckingham's 16 points were second only to Kendall Fisher's 17 points, which came off the bench. Fisher went 5-for-11 from the field, including 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. Cherilyn Banas, Katelyn Smith, and Danielle Hanson dished out a team-high three assists each.

Cornerstone finished the game shooting 32.8 percent from the field, 21.4 percent from three-point land. The Golden Eagles only made two trips to the charity stripe in the whole contest, missing both attempts. The Blue Devil's strong defense limited Cornerstone to just one double-digit scorer, Brooke Modderman.

After opening with an 18-6 run, Lawrence Tech put away the game in the second quarter, outscoring CU 30-7. The Blue Devils recorded 30 rebounds and shot 48.6 percent from the field in the first half.

Buckingham continued to pour it on in the third quarter, scoring a quick four points to put LTU up 52-18. The Blue Devils extended their advantage to 42 points twice in the third. The first one off a Buckingham three-pointer that was started with a defensive rebound by Rachel Price that led to the transition bucket. Just a few possessions later, Hope Dollarhide turned aside a Golden Eagle shot that led to a fast break score for LTU.

Lawrence Tech's largest lead of the contest arrived one minute before the end of the fourth quarter. Following a turnover by Cornerstone, Alex Ruster received the pass from Langolf to score her lone field goal of the outing, knocking one down from beyond the arc to give LTU the 93-41 edge.

Lawrence Tech will be back on the court on Saturday, December 1, as the Blue Devils host seventh-ranked Indiana Tech (9-1, 4-0) at the Don Ridler Field House. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
