No. 21 Lawrence Tech falls at No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan 51-82

MARION, Ind. - The 21st-ranked Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's basketball team fell to 15th-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University 51-82 at the 2018 Leah Whittaker Memorial Invitational. With this loss, the Blue Devils moved to 5-2 overall.

How it Happened

Indiana Wesleyan (4-3, 0-0) took an early 5-0 lead with two jumpers and one free throw. Nicole Buckingham (SR/Saginaw, Mich.) grabbed a rebound in the 1:56 mark that led Kaitlyn Smith (JR/Holly, Mich.) to score the first two-point field goal of the Blue Devils to cut the Wildcat's lead to 5-2. Indiana Wesleyan then assembled an 18-12 run to close the first quarter with a 9-point lead.

Just as at the beginning of the first quarter, the Wildcats blew the game open in the second quarter with two field goals and one free throw. The Blue Devils had a 19-31 quarter shooting 53.8 percent from the field including 1-for-3 from three-point land and 4-for-4 from the line. Indiana Wesleyan led 54-33 by the end of the first half.

Indiana Wesleyan opened the third quarter once again with two jumpers. However, the Blue Devils put together a 10-4 run to close the third quarter down by 19 points, 43-62. This run started with a field goal from beyond the arc by Smith. Lawrence Tech shot 26.7 percent from the field and had three steals in this quarter.

The Blue Devils struggled to put points up in the fourth quarter as the Wildcats put the game away with an 8-20 quarter. Emily Langolf (SO/Macomb, Mich.) closed the quarter with a three-point field goal with 44 seconds left.

Game Trends

-Blue Devils scored 14 points in the paint. Indiana Wesleyan scored 34.

-Lawrence Tech scored 17 points off turnovers, while the Wildcats scored 20.

-The Blue Devils had four second chance points.


Blue Devils by the Numbers

-Buckingham had a team high 22 points on 9-for-16 including 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. She also recorded a team high six rebounds and one block in 28 minutes of action.

-Smith recorded a team high three assists. She also scored six points and grabbed one rebound.

-Kendall Fisher (FR/Indianapolis, Ind.) and Langolf scored 7 points off the bench each for the Blue Devils in 30 and 15 minutes of action respectively. In addition, Fisher had a team high two steals. Langolf recorded three rebounds and one assist.

-The Blue Devils recorded 9 assists, 18 turnovers, and 7 steals.

-Lawrence Tech finished the game shooting 38.0 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc and 58.3 percent from the line.

Wildcats by the Numbers

-Nicole Ignasiak led the Lancers with 15 points as she shot 6-for-10 including 3-for-4 from the line. She also recorded eight rebounds, two steals, and two rebounds.

-Jene'e Goodwin and Stephanie Conrad recorded a team high four assists in 21 and 18 minutes of action respectively.

-Carly Lange had a team high of 9 rebounds.

-The Wildcats finished the game shooting 54.5 percent from the field, 64.3 percent from three-point land and 72.2 percent from the line.

-The team recorded 20 assists, 16 turnovers, and 9 steals.
