Lawrence Tech Downs Lakers 95-29; Smith Scores Six 3-Point Field Goals

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's basketball team defeated Wright State-Lake University (Ohio) 95-29 in the Don Ridler Field House on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened

Kaitlyn Smith (JR/Holly, Mich.) opened the game with the first of her six threes in the first two quarters. The Blue Devils led the game by eight, 12-4, with 4:17 left in the first quarter as Nicole Buckingham (SR/Saginaw, Mich.) closed the run with a field goal. Smith closed the quarter the same way she opened it, with a three to give the Blue Devils a 22-6 lead after the first.

The Blue Devils continued to dominate the game with six steals in the second quarter as they built a 30-point lead with 6:06 left until halftime. The Blue Devils closed the quarter up 45-15 Lawrence Tech shot 50 percent from the field in the second quarter including 4-for-11 from beyond the arc.

Wright State-Lake struggled to put points up in the third quarter as the Blue Devils put the game away with a 22-2 quarter. Danielle Hanson (JR/East Lansing, Mich.) started the scoring with a pair of free-throws and a jumper to push the lead to 49-15 as they went on a 20-0 run to open the third. The Blue Devils went into the fourth quarter with a 67-17 lead.

Lawrence Tech closed the game with a 28 point fourth quarter as they won their third game of the season 95-29. The Blue Devils shot 11-for-17 from the field in the final quarter and held a 13-6 advantage on the boards.

-Nicole Buckingham had a team high five steals and scored 13 points in the win as she played 26 minutes. She also grabbed nine rebounds and two assists.

-Alex Ruster (SR/Warren, Mich.) scored 11 points off the bench for the Blue Devils in 17 minutes of action, her first minutes since the opening game. She went 3-for-6 from three and shot 2-for-4 from the line.

-The team finished the game shooting 54.3 percent from the field, 46.4 percent from beyond the arc and 60 percent from the line.

-Recorded 25 assists with 12 turnovers and 13 steals.

Lakers by the Numbers

-Kennedy Dixon led the way for Wright State-Lake with 12 points as she shot 6-for-9 from the field.

- Mikayla Stump finished the game with seven points as she played the entire game for the Lakers.

-The Lakers shot 23.9 percent from the field and 5.9 percent from the three point arc.

-Finished the game with 25 turnovers and just three assists with two steals.
