Lawrence Tech Falls to Rochester 64-57 on Senior Day; Fisher has Career High 22 Points

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's basketball team hosted Rochester (Mich.) College on Senior Day and fell 64-57 at Don Ridler Field House.

Lawrence Tech (18-8, 10-6) honored their senior class before the game, celebrating the careers of Nicole Buckingham, Cherilyn Banas, and Alex Ruster.

The Blue Devils opened the game slow, struggling in the first quarter as Rochester jumped out to a 13-3 lead. The Warriors closed the quarter with a 17-7 lead. Rochester pushed their lead to 22-7 42 seconds in the second quarter. Lawrence Tech responded with a 13-4 run to cut the lead to six, 24-18 with 5:14 left in the quarter. Kendal Fisher highlighted the run, scoring nine of the 13 points.

Rochester (17-11, 11-7) went back up 27-19, but Emily Langolf three pointer at 2:34 sparked a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to one. Langolf scored five points during the run while Buckingham closed the quarter with four points to make it 29-28 Warriors.

Lawrence Tech opened the third quarter where they left off in the second, scoring the first seven points to take a 36-27 lead off a Kaitlyn Smith three. The Warriors cut the Blue Devil lead to two and with a pair of free throws and they tied it at 42-42 with 2:09 left in the third. Both teams struggled to find their shot in the final two minutes as Rochester took a 44-42 lead into the final quarter.

The Warriors pushed the lead to 48-43 with 6:52 and went up seven points, 57-50 with 3:07 remaining in the game. Smith made one of two free throws to cut it down to a six-point lead and Buckingham's pair of free throws made it a 57-53 lead. A turnover after a Buckingham steal gave Rochester a pair of free throws to make it 59-53, but Buckingham responded with a pair of free throws to make it 59-55.

The Blue Devils continued to battle down four with Fisher getting to the line to make it a 60-57 game with 22 seconds remaining. However, Rochester was able to make free throws down the stretch to hold off the Blue Devils comeback, taking it 64-57.

Kendall Fisher led the way with a career high 22 points and finished with four rebounds. Buckingham finished with her 16th double-double of her career, 12 points and 11 rebounds.
