SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's hoops defeated Lourdes (Ohio) University for the second time this season, 94-49, at the Don Ridler Field House on Saturday, February 2. Senior Guard Nicole Buckingham paced the Blue Devils with a career-high 37 points, setting the team's record for most points in one game.
Lawrence Tech (18-7, 10-5) shot 53 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc. The Blue Devils scored 22 points off 15 miscues by the Gray Wolves and capitalized with 10 points off 10 offensive boards. LTU won the battle on the glass, 43-33.
Buckingham's record performance consisted of 14-for-21 from the field and 4-for-10 from deep. In addition, she led the squad with nine boards, four steals, and two blocks. Kaitlyn Smith paced the Blue Devils with five assists. Teryn Kline contributed 13 points, while Rachel Price and Danielle Hanson scored 10 apiece.
Lourdes (9-15, 4-11) had shooting woes throughout the outing, as the team finished 29.5 percent from the field and 23.1 from three-point land. The Gray Wolves' bench outscored LTU's, 30-22. However, the Blue Devil defense limited Lourdes to only one scorer in the double digits, Sydney Miller, with 13 points.
Lawrence Tech took control of the game within seconds of tipoff as Price opened the contest with a jumper, which sparked a 24-4 run. Hanson closed the quarter with two layups to give LTU a 28-4 lead. The Blue Devils shot 64.7 percent from the field during the first 10 minutes of play, which included a 40-percent effort from deep.
In the second quarter, LTU continued to be aggressive on the offensive end, converting 53.3 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from beyond the arc. Buckingham opened the quarter by knocking down one from deep, totaling 19 points thus far. The Blue Devils outscored the Gray Wolves, 20-17, in the second to take a 26-point edge into the break.
Lawrence Tech's lead climbed to 38 points in the third. The largest lead game at the end of the fourth quarter. Following a jumper by Lourdes, Hope Dollarhide knocked one down from beyond the arc to give LTU a 48-point advantage at 92-44.
Lawrence Tech will be back on the court on Wednesday, February 6, at 6 p.m. when the Blue Devils visit Aquinas (Mich.) College in Grand Rapids, Mich.
