DETROIT, Mich.- The (RV) Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University softball team defeated Lourdes (Ohio) University 4-1 and 5-3 on Senior Day at UD-Mercy.
Senior Outfielder Cherilyn Banas opened the scoring for Lawrence Tech (33-7-1, 15-5-1) in the second inning of the first game with an RBI single to score Brittany Wieland. In the fifth inning, LTU stretched the lead to 3-0 off a single by Meredith Adams and an error by Lourdes' (6-24, 2-16) third baseman to drive in Sarah Hige and Bailey Brown.
The Gray Wolves scored their lone run of the game with a homer in the top of the sixth inning just to see Kennedy Emmons give the Blue Devils the 4-1 lead in the bottom of the frame after scoring Jackie Mattingly.
Alexa Cherney toed the rubber for Lawrence Tech during all seven innings. The Farmington Hills, Mich. native surrendered one earned run on three hits and two walks. Cherney struck out nine of the 27 batters she faced.
Lourdes took an early lead in game two with its second homer of the day and pushed the advantage to 3-0 with two runs – one unearned – in the top of the fourth inning. In the bottom of the frame, the Blue Devils cut the deficit to one run with a single by Andra Malburg that drove in Gina Barber and Hige. Adams was in charge of tying the game on a passed ball after Brown walked.
Bult pitched for seven innings, in which she sat down three of the 28 batters she faced. In addition, Bult allowed three runs – two earned – on five hits and no walks.
The Blue Devils will be back in action on Tuesday, April 23 to face off with Siena Heights (Mich.) University on a rescheduled game from Wednesday, April 17. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m. at UD-Mercy.
