FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich.- The (RV) Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University softball team defeated, 4-3, (RV) Siena Heights (Mich.) University on Wednesday, April 17 at the Farmington Hills Harrison High School. Game two of the doubleheader was postponed; new date, location and time are still to be determined.
Brittney Bult toed the rubber for Lawrence Tech (29-7-1, 11-5-1) throughout the whole game. The Brampton, Ontario native allowed three runs – one earned – on eight hits and four walks. Bult sat down five of the 46 batters she faced and registered 95 strikes on 155 total pitches.
Lawrence Tech exploded in the fourth inning with three runs to gain a 3-0 advantage. Bult opened the scoring for the Blue Devils with an RBI single down the center field to drive in Kennedy Emmons. Brittany Wieland stretched LTU's lead to 3-0 with a two-run homer as she scored Bult.
Siena Heights (29-12, 13-4) tied things in the top of the sixth inning with a one-run homer of their own by Lily Guerra and two unearned runs off an error by right fielder, Emmons. Bult shut down the Saints for the rest of the effort and solely allowed three hits in the final five innings. Alex Amos gave LTU the win with an RBI single down the center field to score Jackie Mattingly.
The Blue Devils outhit SHU, 10-8, led by Wieland as she went 2-for-3 from the plate. Wieland also paced the squad with two RBIs.
Lawrence Tech will be back in action on Saturday, April 20 when the team hits the road to visit Cornerstone (Mich.) University in Grand Rapids, Mich. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. The doubleheader against Lourdes (Ohio) University, originally scheduled for Thursday, April 18, has been rescheduled to Monday, April 22. Time and location are still to be determined.
