The Lawrence Technological University men's cross country team opened their 2019 season this year in West Virginia at the Bethany College (W. Va.) Invitational on Saturday, september 7th. The Blue Devils placed 9th out of 22 other teams in their division.
The team was led by freshman Nolan McGahan who was the only award winner due to his placing in the top 10. His 27:09 8k time was good enough for 9th out of 218 runners and put him 5th on the all time school performance list. Right behind him was returner Alex Towianski (28:21) who got 34th with a time of 28:21. Following Towianski was Ethan Rozanski with a time of 28:47 for a 46th finish. John Bowen came next with a time of 29:05 placing him 52nd overall while Brody Sodon came across the finish line at 29:43 for 66th place. Rounding up the Blue Devils were Brendan Koch with a time of 30:35 and Jimmy Hoefler who finished at 30:40.
Coach Eric Green was happy with these results in their first meet of the year, "It was great to see most of the guys who ran this course last year in the very messy conditions get some redemption with the great course conditions yesterday. This also helped the freshman get an 8k race under their belt to know what it will be like for the rest of the season for that distance." Not only did the team have good weather, but their opponents were fierce, which can only prepare them for WHAC foes later this season, "The competition this year at the race was much tougher. Overall, team wise, we ran faster times than last year which is a positive sign for the rest of the season."
Looking ahead, the Blue Devils now prepare for their next meet in Ohio at Otterbein University (Ohio) on September 14th.
