SOUTHFIELD, Mich.-The Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) men's tennis team picked up their first victory of the season in a match vs. the Bulldogs of Adrian College (Mich.). The Blue Devils (1-1) bounced back with a 4-3 victory over the visiting Bulldogs (0-1).
The Blue Devils set the tone early in their doubles matches to earn the first team point. The duo of Alex Tammarro and Alex Rajal, in the #1 doubles match, got the winning started for the Blue Devils. They won by a score of 6-3. Following right behind them was the #2 doubles pair of William Burgess and Adam Alger. Burgess and Alger won their match by a score of 7-5. Wrapping up the winning in the doubles matches was the #3 doubles team of Lukas Obel and Nicolas DaMotta. Their match ended with a score of 7-5. The Blue Devils entered singles play with a 1-0 lead over the Bulldogs.
The 1-0 lead for the Blue Devils was increased to 2-0 after Tammarro continued his dominance; he won in straight sets in the #1 singles match (6-1,6-2). The Blue Devils then dropped a pair of matches in the #3 and #2 singles matchups. With the team points tied at 2-2, the Blue Devils received a key win in the #5 singles match from Lukas Obel. Obel gave the Blue Devils a 3-2 lead by winning in straight sets (6-3, 6-2). To seal the victory for the Blue Devils, Pedro Orellana went on to win the #4 singles match in dramatic fashion (6-4, 5-7, 10-5). This pushed the lead to 4-2 with one match remaining to be finished. The Blue Devils lost this final match, but still won by a score of 4-3.
The LTU men's tennis team responded just as Head Coach Stephen Behmlander expected. They came out, fought hard, and walked away with a victory. The Blue Devils will be back in action on Saturday, September 14th. They will be on the road to take on the tennis team from the University of St. Francis (Ind.); the match is set to begin at 3:00pm EST.
