SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- The Lawrence Technological University men's tennis team (0-1) will be looking to bounce back after a tough loss in the first match of the season to Taylor University (Ind.). The Blue Devils will be hosting the Adrian College Bulldogs (0-0) on Wednesday, September 4th at 4:00pm.
In their season opener the Blue Devils lost by a score of 4-1. The point was won courtesy of a victory by Alexander Tammaro in the #1 singles' match. Another highlight for the Blue Devils in this match was, a win by the #1 doubles duo of Tammaro and Alex Fernandez-Rajal. The pair won by a score of 6-4.
Head Coach Stephen Behmlander had this to say about the men's team, who are looking to bounce back, "Our men took a tough loss to a much improved Taylor team last week. A year ago we blanked Taylor, 9-0...this year with 3 freshmen in our line up, and two very good newcomers on Taylor, we lost 1-4. Our kids have been practicing very well and played hard, but eventually inexperience caught up with them on the court."
His message was simple to his team leading up to the match vs. Adrian, "...one match does not make a season. They played well against good players. Chalk it up to experience and move on...they seemed to have taken me to heart and have had a great few days of practice leading up to the Adrian match." Behmlander has a lot of confidence in this team, "I don't think the guys necessarily have to do anything differently than they are already...they are brilliant kids, it's just them getting comfortable together as doubles teams, learning about each other on court and moving forward."
These two programs have met a total of five times in their history, and in all five matches the Blue Devils have been victorious. In the 2018 match-up, the Blue Devils went to Adrian College and walked away with a 8-1 victory. The LTU men's tennis team will look to remain perfect in the series history vs. the Bulldogs at 4:00pm on Wednesday, September 4th. This will be the home opener for the Blue Devils.
