UPLAND, Ind.-The Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) men's tennis team fell on the road in their first match of the season to the Tojans of Taylor University, by a score of 1-4. This was the first time that the Blue Devils have been defeated by the Trojans. The all time series record now stands at 4-1.
The #2 doubles match was the first to finish and saw the Blue Devils pair of Lukas Obel and William Burgess lose by a score of 0-6. Finishing second in the doubles matches was the #3 doubles match. This match saw the Blue Devils also fall short once again. The duo of Pedro Orellana and Nicholas DaMotta lost by a score of 1-6. This sealed the doubles point for the Trojans, but this did not keep the #1 doubles pair of the Blue Devils from winning their match. Alexander Tammaro and Alex Fernandez-Rajal won by a score of 6-4.
In the singles matches, the Blue Devils found themselves on the losing side in three of the four matches. Getting on the board first in the singles matches were the Trojans. In the #3 singles match, the Blue Devils' Orellana lost both sets by a score of 0-6 and 2-6. This made the match score 2-0 in favor of the Trojans. The Blue Devils got their first point of the match thanks to a win from Tammaro in the #1 singles match, winning both of his sets by a score of 6-2. With the match score at 2-1, the #4 singles match concluded. Burgess lost his first set 1-6 and his second set 5-7. This pushed the Taylor lead to 3-1. In the final match of the day, Alex Rajal lost in straight sets in the #2 singles match, 0-6 and 1-6. With this result, the Taylor University Trojans won the match 4-1.
The LTU men's tennis team will look to bounce back on Wednesday, September 4th as they host Adrain College. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00pm EST.
