HUNTINGTON, Ind.- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's team fell 5-4 to Huntington (Ind.) University on Friday, April 5 in IWU Wildcat Invitational action.
Lawrence Tech (12-7, 3-1) took a momentary lead as Viktor Kolesnychenko and Robert Saitov defeated Luke Buttermore and Niko Rongos, 8-4, at doubles court-three. Huntington (11-7, 6-3) then built a comeback by winning first and second flights to take a 2-1 lead. At court-two, Lukas Obel and Alejo Godall-Tintore fell 8-2 to Illia Turaba and Sebastian Salas. Alexander Tammaro and Alex Fernandez-Rajal dropped first flight, 8-5, to Ignacio Ponce and Mariano Echeverria.
In singles action, the Foresters stretched the lead to 3-1 after Adam Alger lost 6-1, 6-1 to Buttermore at court two. The Blue Devils then engineered a three-point comeback to reclaim the lead as Fernandez-Rajal (6-0, 6-1), Saitov (6-4, 7-5), and Godall-Tintore (6-0, 6-1) took second, fourth and sixth flights, respectively. Despite splitting sets, Tammaro fell 5-7, 7-6(4), 11-9 at court-one to Poncio to tie the match 4-4. Huntington sealed the victory with a win in fifth flight as Obel dropped a 6-0, 6-4 decision to Salas.
The Blue Devils return to the court on Saturday, April 6 when they face off with Indiana University-Southeast at 10 a.m. and Taylor (Ind.) University at 3 p.m.
