RIO GRANDE, Ohio—The Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) men's soccer team traveled to the University of Rio Grande (Ohio) for a non-conference match-up against the No. 5 ranked team in the country.
In the first half, scoring opportunities were hard to come by. The Blue Devils (0-3) had two shots, and the RedStorm (4-0) had three shots: two of them being on goal. Both teams were held scoreless in the early minutes of the first half until the RedStorm struck first with 23:42 showing on the scoreboard. This gave the RedStorm a 1-0 lead over the Blue Devils. Later in the first half, the RedStorm were able to extend their lead to two goals with 8:57 remaining in the half. This concluded the scoring in the opening half.
The scoring action began with 29:23 left in the second half. Rio Grande University pushed their lead to 3-0, after the ball was headed in by the RedStorm. The RedStorm continued to keep the pressure on the Blue Devils all second half. With under four minutes remaining in the second half, the RedStorm's lead grew to 4-0 as they scored their second goal of this half. As the clock wound down to 00:00 the score remained the same, and the University of Rio Grande won the contest by a score of 4-0 over the Blue Devils.
When asked what he wants to see out of his team moving forward, Head Coach Will Dyer responded, "trusting the process and holding each other accountable." Even though the score was 4-0, Dyer commented that the Blue Devils, "had some very good moments in tonight's game, but need more consistency for a full game."
The men's soccer team will have some time to make necessary adjustments moving forward, as their next match is scheduled for September 7th at 7:00pm EST. They will be traveling to Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) for another non-conference match-up.
