FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological University men's hockey team (ACHA DI) swept the weekend versus Cleary University. This is their last matches of the month of November. The first match versus the Cougars was at home and resulted with the Blue Devils dominating with a 11-1 win. Then, on the road, they had a much narrower game yet came out on top with a 5-4 win.
GAME 1 - 11.22
The first match started off with a hot Blue Devils (8-4-0) team taking the ice. Conner Victory found the net first with ten minutes ticked off the clock, with an assist from Alec Allen. Then, only moments later, Allen found the back of the net with assists from Parker Hodges and Erik Engdahl. Then, as the period had sixteen minutes off the clock, Victory scored again with an assist from Thimo Ey and Jake Stawinski. With less than a minute to go in the first, John Horn found the back of the net with an assist from Cole Therrien. After that. LTU took off.
Entering the second, the Blue Devils had four power play goals in the first eleven minutes of the period. The first came with six minutes off the game clock from Bryce Ebert and an assist from Edward Flood. Then, two minutes later, Allen scored again with familiar faces Ey and Therrien assisting him. Only seconds later, Flood added to the mix to make the game 7-0 with an assist from Alex Schlueter. To close up the power play domination, Allen made the score sheet again with assist from Ey to make the game 8-0. His first of the season, Erik Engdahl scored at the 15 minute mark with an assist from Parker Hodges. Wrapping up the period, Horn scored with minutes to go with assists from Schlueter and Ey.
The third was much quieter for LTU. Despite this, Lawrence Tech scored a fifth goal off a power play opportunity from the stick of Horn and assists from Therrien and Allen. Then, eight minutes into the third, Cleary (2-11-0) prevented the shut out and found the back of the net.
GAME 2 - 11.23
The second match on the road for the Blue Devils was a stark difference from the first. Cleary dominated the first period, scoring three to the LTU null. However, entering the second, Lawrence Tech found their stride and scored three of their own to answer the Cougars. These goals were all from frequented stat sheet names from the night before. Ending the drought was Thimo Ey with an assist from 5th year Austin Fulmer and Conner Victory. Then, a little over a minute later, Bryce Ebert found the back of the net. Then, with less than a minute to go, Therrien got one past the Cleary keeper unassisted.
Entering the second, each team fought hard, with Cleary scoring with only 1:15 rolled off the clock. However, another power play goal came the way of LTU with Therrien doing what he does best and finding the back of the net, unassisted once again. As the second ticked off the clock, the teams ended in the regular periods in a tie.
Going into overtime, Blake Heier found the back of the net quickly to stifle any response from the Cleary bench, securing the win for the Blue Devils and the sweep of the weekend against Cleary.
