ALLEN PARK, Mich. – The No. 3 Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's bowling team won the opening WHAC Jamboree with a total pin count of 7,181 for a 997.36 to earn the win by less than a pin a game.
Lawrence Tech opened the tournament with a 1,040 in game one to set the tone for the day as they knocked down a total 3,847 pins over the four games. They earned an additional 3,309 total pins over the four baker games for a total of 7,181 pins. Indiana Tech finished with 7,178 total pins and a 996.94 average to take second place followed by Spring Arbor (Mich.) University, Lourdes (Ohio) University, and Concordia (Mich.) University – Ann Arbor.
Kyle McGrath led the way for the Blue Devils, taking second place with an 848 as he hit a match high 247 in game two to pace his performance. He finished with a 212.0 average. Cody Johnston took sixth place with an 824 and a 206.0 average. Johnston paced himself with an opening 235. Chase Kaufman, 2018-19 WHAC Bowler of the Year, finished in 10th place with an 804 and 201.0 average. He had a match high 224 in game four.
Chad Stephen bowled three game for the Blue Devils and averaged 190.0 for 570 total pins over the first three games. Jordan Bryant added three games for Lawrence Tech, bowling in the first, second and fourth game for a 156.67 average and 470 total pins. The Blue Devils reserve teams also participated in the reserve series, earning second and third place respectively. The top reserve bowler was Noah Wells who threw a 781 for a 192.25 average – 210, 205, 202, 164.
McGrath and Lawrence Tech are back on the lanes Saturday, October 12 when they head to the two-day Orange and Black Classic.
