LIMA, Ohio—The Lawrence Technological University men's basketball team (5-2, 1-1) traveled to the University of Northwestern Ohio (2-5, 0-3) for a Wednesday night WHAC matchup. The Devils went on the road to defeat the Racers by a score of 74-70.
The Blue Devils' offense came out hot, scoring the first five points, and started the game on a 10-4 run in the first four minutes. Neither team was able to gain a distinct advantage in the game during the first ten minutes, but the Blue Devils did hold a 26-20 lead with 9:41 left in the half. The Blue Devils extended their lead to 10, and never let the Racers gain any sort of momentum. The Racers got to within eight, but the Blue Devil offense would answer right back with points of their own. The half came to a close with the Blue Devils ahead of the Racers 42-34
Leading the scoring for the Blue Devils in the first half was Carter Frantz. Frantz went for 16 points on 5-8 shooting. Gunnar Gustafson also had a great first half. He netted 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds, which led the Blue Devils.
Entering the second half with an eight point lead, the Blue Devils needed to continue to dominate on offense. However the Racers came out and put the pressure on the Blue Devils right away. The Racers pulled ahead in the first four minutes by going on a 12-3 run. Both teams would trade buckets and leads for the next two minutes until the Blue Devils went ahead, and never gave up their lead. With their offense getting into a rhythm, they would get out to an 11 point lead after an 11-2 run over the next five minutes. This run resulted in the Blue Devils going ahead 61-50. The Racers would get within two, but never grabbed the lead away from the Blue Devils. The Blue Devils would go on to win 74-70.
The Blue Devils went on the road to defeat the Racers for the first time in the last seven seasons. Leading the scoring efforts for the Blue Devils was Gustafson. He finished the game with 21 points and 12 rebounds to give him his first double-double on the season. Coming up next or the Blue Devils will be home game at the Don Ridler Field House. Coming to town will be the Cardinals of Concordia-Ann Arbor (3-4, 1-0). The game is scheduled to begin at 3:00pm on Saturday, November 23rd.
