PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill.—The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's basketball team bounced back from last night's loss, as they defeated the Trolls of Trinity Christian (Ill.) University by a score of 79-76. The Blue Devils finished 1-1 on the weekend after winning the tightly contested battle with the Trolls on Saturday afternoon.
Neither team was able to gain a sizeable lead in the first half. However, Lawrence Tech. held on to a small lead for the entire half. Their largest lead of the half was only ten points when the score was 34-24 after the first 14 minutes of the half. The Trolls erased the Blue Devil lead by going on a 12-2 run over the next five minutes to get the score back to even at 36 each. The Blue Devils were then able to a small lead as the game entered halftime with the Blue Devils ahead 40-38.
The second half was just as competitive as the first half. With both teams trading buckets early, it appeared that we were going to have an exciting finish. The Trolls were able to erase the Blue Devil lead, except this time, the Trolls were able to pull ahead 51-50. Over the next six minutes, the Trolls extended their lead over the Blue Devils to seven points. With just 8:44 left and down 58-67, the Blue Devils needed to make a run, and that they did. They went on 12-0 run to take a 70-67 lead with just 4:29 left. The Blue Devils were able to hold on, and won the back and forth game by a score of 79-76.
Two Blue Devils scored 20 or more points in the afternoon contest. Leading the Blue Devils was Jordan Henry who was 7-13 from the field, giving him a total of 22 points. After a slow first half with just six points, Henry found his rhythm and struck for 16 in the second half. Carter Franz was the other Blue Devil in the twenties. Franz scored 20 points with four, three pointers. Gunnar Gustafson was third on the team in scoring for the night. He went for 15 points on 60% shooting.
The Blue Devils will be back on the court in one week, Saturday, November 16th. Conference play opens on their home court, the Don Ridler Field House, as the Cornerstone (Mich.) University Golden Eagles come to Southfield. That contest is scheduled to tip-off at 3:00pm.
