Lawrence Tech Football Falls to No. 21-Ranked Siena Heights Saints 41-20 on Homecoming

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University football team fell to No. 21-ranked Siena Heights (Mich.) University 41-20 on Saturday in the 2019 Homecoming game.

Lawrence Tech (1-5) took the ball to open the game, but following a 14-yard pass to Derek Hinton Jr., the drive stalled on the Siena Heights 48. The Saints responded on the next possession with a 79-yard touchdown run on their second play from scrimmage to take a 7-0 lead.

The Saints went three-and-out on their next possession, but a Lawrence Tech special teams turnover gave the Saints the ball on the Lawrence Tech six. Gabe Callery responded with six-yard touchdown run to push their lead to 14-0. The Saints added one more touchdown in the first half, a 13-yard pass to Anthony Secchi to put them up 21-0.

Tyler Kulka led the way for Lawrence Tech as he threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns – one rushing – for Lawrence Tech Including an 11-yard pass to Marqez Steele to cut the lead to 21-6. It was Steele's first touchdown of his collegiate career.

Siena Heights (6-1) answered on the next drive, going 65-yards on eight plays as Tyler Knecht hit Pianki Abdul-Hakiym for five-yards to push their lead to 28-6. They added two more touchdowns at the beginning of the fourth quarter to make it a 41-6 game with 12:39 left in the game.

The Blue Devils finished the game on a high note, scoring a pair of late touchdowns to take cut the final score to 41-20. Kulka found Kendyl Williams streaking down the sidelines as he hauled in a 67-yard touchdown pass to make it a 41-13 game with 6:42 left. Lawrence Tech's defense followed with a three-and-out, giving Lawrence Tech the ball with 4:32 remaining in the game.

Tyler Kulka hit Hinton for a 14-yard catch followed by a 17-yard pass to C.J. Thompson to set up a one-yard touchdown run from Kulka to make it 41-20 with 3:15 on the clock. The Saints were able to run the clock down on their final possession of the game to earn the win.

Robbie Best led the defense with 10 total tackles while Cade Dickson added 10 solo tackles. Charlie Riddle had the lone sack of the game for Lawrence Tech. Williams led the way offensively with 88 yards receiving and one touchdown while Thompson added 78 yards on eight catches. Kulka finishe 20-for-34 for two touchdowns and an interception while running for one.

The Blue Devils return to action October 26 when they travel to Indianapolis, Ind. to face No. 3 Marian (Ind.) University. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
