The Lawrence Technological University men's ACHA Division III team took the win against Ferris State University's ACHA Division III team on Friday, September 27th for their first game of the season. Several new faces were seen in the scoring column for the Blue Devils.
Opening up the game in the first period with five minutes left was Conor Burnette, a sophomore from Livonia, Mich.. The horn sounded with the Blue Devils going to the locker room up 1-0. When the second period begun, things got more tight. The Bulldogs came in quick with two back to back goals in the early minutes of the period, moving to 2-1, gaining their first and last lead of the game. In the efforts of freshman Thimo Ey, from Metamora, Mich., the Blue devils got the equalizer on a power play opportunity. Only two minutes later was another newcomerin the form of Tim Foley,a grad player from Troy, Mich., finding the back of the net with an assist from Adam Parker, a sophomore returner. LTU ended the half up 3-2 and went into the third period with more tension.
The period remained scoreless for the first seven minutes, until the Blue Devils found the back of the net again off a power play goal from Burnette again, assisted by junior returner Josh Bauer and freshman Cole Therrien from Plymouth, Mass.
With the diverse scoring and their limits on penalties, only grabbing six compared to FSU's nine, the Blue Devils claimed the win to open their season hot. They play the same team, FSU, again tonight on September 28th at 8:00 p.m.
