Lawrence Tech Bowlers Nab National Runner-Up Honors; Individual Honors
DAYTON, Ohio.- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's bowling team earned National Runner-Up honors in the ITC championship match against Weber International (Fla.) University on Saturday, April 20.
In the first game, the Blue Devils bowled 176, three pins short of the Warriors. In game two, LTU fell 150-149 to Weber. Despite improving 32 pins in the third game, Weber sealed the victory with a 209-181 win over Lawrence Tech.
Chase Kaufman (JR/Swartz Creek, Mich.) of the Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University earned NAIA Men's Bowling All-America Second Team honors, the national office announced on Tuesday, April 2. Kaufman becomes the first men's bowling student-athlete to be awarded this recognition.
In the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, Kaufman was named to the All-Conference First Team and earned Player of the Year honors. Kaufman also earned All-Conference Academic Team honors for his work in the classroom and was named WHAC Player of the Week on December 31.
Joseph Alvord (SR/South Lyon, Mich.) was named 2019 Daktronics NAIA Men's Bowling Scholar Athlete due to his performance in the classroom.
Bailey Gipson (FR/Davison, Mich.) earned First Team All-Conference and Newcomer of the Year honors in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference following her successful 2018-19 season on the lanes. This is the first time a Blue Devil is awarded Newcomer of the Year recognition. In addition, Gipson was named Lawrence Tech's Champion of Character.
Over the 2018-19 season, Gipson nabbed WHAC Bowler of the Week honors on December 31 and won her first WHAC event, Jamboree No. 4 on February 2. In addition, Gipson joins former Blue Devils Bridget Moricz, Sara Schulz, and Hannah Gauthier as an awardee for First Team All-Conference honors.
