SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's tennis defeated Holy Cross (Mich.) College 9-0 on Sunday, October 8 at the Southfield Tennis Courts.
The Blue Devils jumped out to a 3-0 lead as Samantha Kohn (FR/Dearborn, Mich.) and Carolyn McCullen (SR/Westland, Mich.) dispatched Kaitlin Burguieres and Sydney O'Connor 8-0 at No. 2 doubles followed by Sabrina Mateos (SO/Mexico City, Mexico) and Anusha Varudandi (FR/Parkland, Fla.) who defeated Kaylynn Gruber and Marissa Jaggi 8-3 at No. 1 doubles. Sarah Burgess (SO/Ortonville, Mich.) and Maria Alvarez (SO/Ames, La Coruna, Spain) completed the doubles sweep with a 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
Lawrence Tech (4-4) continued to roll as Varudandi gave LTU a 4-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Kohn secured the win for Lawrence Tech with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. Mateos gave the Blue Devils a 6-0 lead with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. singles.
McCullen pushed the lead to 7-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles. Alvarez made it 8-0 with a straight sets win at No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-0 followed by Claire Flood (SO/St. Clair Shores, Mich.) with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles to secure the 9-0 sweep.
The Blue Devils lost just 15 games on the day and did not lose a set as they won their fourth match of the season.
Lawrence Tech is back in action February 28 when they travel to Wayne State (Mich.) University starting at 3 p.m.
