LIVONIA, Mich. – The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University baseball team dropped the final game of their three-game series with Madonna (Mich.) University 8-1 on Saturday afternoon at Illitch Park in Livonia, Mich.
Lawrence Tech (13-33, 6-24) fell behind early as Madonna took a 3-0 lead after two innings. Matt Baker (FR/Traverse City, Mich.) got the start on the mound, going four innings with a pair of strikeouts. The Crusaders added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 7-0 lead.
The Blue Devils added a run in the top of the fifth as Max Cadman (FR/Hartland, Mich.) opened the inning with a single to leftfield. Harris entered the game as the pinch runner for Cadman who followed with a stolen base and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Harris scored on the error by the third basemen to cut the lead to 7-1.
Madonna added an eighth run in the bottom of the fifth as both bullpens closed the game out with no runs over the final four innings. The Crusaders started Alex DeYonker, who went eight innings with nine strikeouts and two hits allowed. Blake Herrera closed the game for Madonna.
Lawrence Tech's Kyle Wolter (FR/Canton, Mich.) and David Klug (FR/Traverse City, Mich.) pitched the final three innings for Lawrence Tech, combining for four strikeouts and no runs on one hit with four walks. Cadman finished the game 1-for-2 which led to the first run scored by Harris.
Lawrence Tech is back on the diamond Wednesday, May 3 when they travel to Wayne State (Mich.) University to play a single game at 3 p.m. They close the season at Rochester (Mich.) College starting May 4 with a single game at 2 p.m. followed by a pair of games on May 5 starting at 2 p.m.
