SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's basketball team travels to Concordia (Mich.) University – Ann Arbor on Wednesday, February 15. Opening tip is set for 6:00 p.m.
Lawrence Tech (15-12, 11-9) enters its penultimate game of the regular season on a high note, having beaten Lourdes (Ohio) University 77-63 in Sylvania, Ohio. Nicole Buckinhgam leads the team in points per game with 16.3 while Allison Kitchen (SR/Clio, MI) averages a team high 6.4 rebounds per game and 1.7 steals per game. Cherilyn Banas (SO/Oxford, Mich.) leads the team in assists per game at 3.1 while Maegan Branham (SR/Michigan Center, MI) has nine blocks on the year.
The Blue Devils rank 17th in NAIA DII in turnover margin (4.96), 21st in assist/turnover ratio (1.02), and 24th in scoring defense per game (60.37). Buckingham ranks 33rd in free throw percentage (0.806), and 44th in points per game. Hayley Walkowski (JR/Marshall, MI) ranks 40th in assist/turnover ratio (1.87) while Kaitlyn Smith (FR/Holly, Mich.) ranks 40th in three-point field goal percentage (0.384).
Lawrence Tech is 4-5 all-time against Concordia with the Blue Devils winning four out of the last five game including a 73-50 win on November 30, 2016 in Southfield, Mich. LTU was led by four players in double-figures including Buckingham and Smith who combined for 43 points and nine rebounds. Kitchen led the team with 10 rebounds to go with her 12 points while Walkowski added 11 points and three assists in the win. Branham finished with six rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and two steals. Borowiak recorded a team high 12 points while Mia Long added 10 points and three steals in the loss.
Concordia (18-10, 11-9) and Lawrence Tech are tied for fourth place in the WHAC with two regular season games remaining. The winner of this game goes a game-up on the other for the fourth and final home game in the upcoming WHAC Tournament with just one game left on Saturday, February 18. Concordia will play at Madonna (Mich.) University and Lawrence Tech hosts Marygrove (Mich.) College on senior day.
The Cardinals are led by Kari Borowiak who averages a team high 15.43 points per game, 5.04 rebounds per game, and 4.00 assists per game. Mia Long tops the team in steals per game (2.86) while Breanne Short averages a team best 1.68 blocks on the season. Long ranks eighth in NAIA DII total steals with 80 while Borowiak ranks 17th in total assists (112) and 20th in total steals (68).
Concordia ranks 10th in NAIA DII in total steals (336), 12th in turnover margin (6.57), 13th in steals per game (12.00), and 22nd in total blocks (102).
