ADRIAN, Mich. – The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's volleyball team wrapped up their weekend in the Siena Heights (Mich.) University tournament with two more losses to Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) University and Cincinnati Christian (Ohio) University on Saturday afternoon in Adrian, Mich.
Lawrence Tech (0-8, 0-2) dropped their game with Cardinal Stitch 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-16) after falling behind 16-12 in the first set. Cardinal Stritch went on to win 25-18.
LTU opened the second set much better than the first, leading by six after a Zach Whatcott strike. Cardinal Stritch switched gears, going on a 7-nil run that tied everything up at 18-18. The two teams battled, trading points but the Wolves prevailed and took a two set lead over the Blue Devils with their 25-21 victory.
The Blue Devils nearly doubled Cardinal Stritch in attack errors ending the game with 20 compared to the Wolves' 11 as Cardinal Stritch completed the sweep 25-16 in game three.
Nicholas O'Brien paced LTU with a .250 hitting percentage while Lawrence Patton recorded eight kills and two block assists. Joshua Eckert had a team high nine digs followed by Alejandro Gonzalez with seven and as many kills. Whattcot added three block assists while Jacob Paige posted 15 assists to lead the team.
Similarly, the Blue Devils also fell 3-0 ( 25-14, 25-22, 25-18) to Cincinnati Christian in game two. LTU began the first set with determination with kills from Joseph Balanda and Zach Whatcott but were eventually tumbled 25-14.
Set two was a closer battle with the Blue Devils equalizing at 17-17 after an attack error from the Eagles. Four service errors were exchanged before the Cincinnati Christian capitalized and sealed the set 25-22.
Whacott and Gonzalez began the third set with dominate strikes in an attempt to keep the intensity rolling but the Blue Devils faltered with four consecutive attack errors, dropping behind 17-12. The Eagles momentum couldn't be capped and they went on the win 25-18.
The Blue Devils return to the court on February 15 as they travel to Sylvania, Ohio to face Lourdes (Ohio) University at 7:00 P.M.
