SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's basketball team put on a show at the Don Ridler Field House Wednesday evening, narrowly falling 80-72 to the #22 Indiana Tech Warriors.
The Blue Devils were led by Payton DeWildt, who finished the night with 19 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Lucas Vojak recorded his first double-double of the season with 15 rebounds and 13 points while Derek Seidl chipped in 11 points, five rebounds and three assists. Erik Davenport also ended the night in double-digit scoring with 16 points.
Lawrence Tech led for most of the first half, gaining an eight-point advantage with eleven minutes remaining after putting together a 19-9 run on the Warriors. The visitors battled back, eventually equalizing at 23 apiece with under eight minutes to play.
Erik Davenport connected on two jumpers and a trey to boost the LTU lead back up to five points before Payton DeWildt added six of his 19 points, putting the Blue Devils up 36-28. A lid on the basket stumped LTU in the last two minutes however, allowing Indiana Tech to trail by only one going into the half.
The second half saw 11 lead changes, finally ending in favor of the Warriors with 3:50 left in regulation. DeWildt and Davenport added a combined four points with 2:22 remaining but those would be the last buckets that LTU would connect on as Indiana Tech finished on an 8-0 run to seal the game 80-72.
The Blue Devils shot 44.4% (28-63) from the floor and 29.6% (8-27) from behind the arc. They were outrebounded by the Warriors but only by one, 38-37, and committed 13 turnovers.
Lawrence Tech now drops to 3-22, 2-17 WHAC. They travel to Sylvania, Ohio on Saturday, February 11 to take on Lourdes University at 3.
